5 Things Your Doing Wrong While Working Out

Deciding to join a gym is a huge step for anyone. Just the fact that you mustered enough courage and willpower to start doing something constructive is huge. This being said, willpower alone can only take you so far. Apart from investing a lot of effort, in order to benefit from your gym efforts, you’ll need to learn a thing or two. You shouldn’t be surprised to find out that even some of the more experienced gym goers repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Here are five of them you could easily avoid.

1. Skipping Your Warmup

No matter how eager you are to start with your training, you should never skip the warm-up. Your tendons, muscles, ligaments and joints are quite delicate and just putting insane stress on them could result in a serious injury. Luckily, this is preventable by simply doing a round of warmup. The exercises themselves are quite simple and they involve a lot of jumping around, walking funny and even trying out yoga positions (or something similar to them). Seeing how the entire process lasts from 10 to 15 minutes it would be foolish to skip it just to save time.

2. Not Drinking Enough Water

This step is quite self-explanatory. You see, while working out, you lose a lot of water and this water needs to be replenished one way or another. This is why, you need to have a bottle of water by your side at all times. Some people tend to replace it with energy drinks, but the effects of this are never ideal. Energy drinks contain a lot of electrolytes which tend to dehydrate you even faster. In other words, there is no alternative to clean fresh water when it comes to hydration.

3. Not Having the Adequate Apparel

It is impossible to stress out enough just how important is to have the right gym clothes. A lot of people settle for something old and comfortable in order to save money. These do not fit the bill. Comfortable clothes are often loose, which means they can easily get caught in a mechanism and rip or even cause injury. Furthermore, some materials don’t react well to sweat and can cause a reaction, which means that they can significantly diminish the effect of your workouts. All in all, what you wear to the gym matters a great deal.

4. Fear of Lifting Weights

Now, this is a step that the female part of the population runs from like a plague. There is a common misconception that all of those who exercise with weights end up looking like female bodybuilders. There is no logic to this claim. Bodybuilders spend their entire lives under rigorous diets, training regimens and live each second of their lives according to certain rules. For this reason, believing you could achieve the same effect by accident is outright insulting. On the other hand, what weights can do for you is help you lose weight, tone your muscles and become stronger overall.

5. Too Ambitious First Training

Finally, a lot of people are so eager to get to their goal that they forget one crucial thing- shaping your body is not a race, but a marathon. In order to try and facilitate their gym progress they start with the workouts they can’t handle (in the long run). This causes a burn out. To avoid this, start with some light workouts and see how much you can take. Next, gradually move the bar up and you will be on the right track. Looking for extra help in the gym is always a good choice. You can consult a personal trainer and they’ll give you all the extra help and motivation you need while working out.

Taking care of your body is important, but it is even more important to think about the long run. A workout injury can set you back significantly. The same goes for getting exhausted after your first few workouts. What you need is a regimen that will give you the best results over the course of years. Luckily, with these five tips you will be on the right path.
