The Glutes

Did you know your glutes are made up of 3 muscles? The glute medius, minimus, and the largest part the glute, the maximus shown here in the photo. Most people (including myself) are quad dominate and have a really hard time being able to fire this muscle. Learning how to do this is called a mind muscle connection and involves glute activation. A great way to get your glutes fired up is a glute bridge. Lay on your back with your knees bent, lifting your hips in the air. Give your glutes a firm squeeze at the top of the movement. Learning how to use this muscle group can improve athletic performance and decrease the risk for injury.
